I wrote about this event last year. It will be exactly the same again, if not much worse. Attacks on police are ignored in the interests of senior officers claiming success. The Met alone are providing 50+ PSUs to the event. Each PSU comprises of three carrier loads of riot police. Other forces, including some from Scotland are also providing assistance.
I have racked my brains, but cannot think of any other community event that requires in excess of 6000 riot police to allow it to be judged a success.

About the only time I have ever agreed with Ken Livingstone was when he suggested that the "Carnival" be moved to Hyde Park. I think at least some of the issues raise their heads because of the way however many hundreds of thousands of people are crammed into narrow streets.
